Banner Health's IT Department is currently looking for an IT Systems Engineer: Linux Administrator.


This position will be responsible for:

  • Administration of different distributions of UNIX.
  • Hardware troubleshooting and break fix resolution.
  • Operating system troubleshooting and break fix resolution.
  • Support of mission critical servers and applications in a 24x7 On-Call environment.
  • Support of departmental applications.
  • Secure configuration of UNIX and Linux systems according to published policies and industry best practices.


The ideal candidate will have the following preferred skills and qualifications:


  • Experience installing Red Hat Linux 5 or 6 or 7.
  • Experience in Linux maintenance, patches and Kernel updates
  • Experience with Configuration Management software
  • Experience working with storage and disk layout (i.e SAN volumes, volume groups, logical volumes, file systems or disk partitions.)
  • Experience working with Lenovo, HP and or Cisco based servers and blades
  • Experiences with virtualization technologies (i.e. VMWare, RHEV, Hiper-V or others)
  • Experience with 3rd party tools for backing up and restoring
  • Experience with monitoring software
  • Understanding of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) technologies
  • Experience working with secure communication protocols and encryption tools
  • Working knowledge of network configuration and the TCP/IP stack
  • Must possess the ability to communicate well with others, to perform work in a team environment.

Job Summary

This position demonstrates technical knowledge of infrastructure and communications processes and supports system defined objectives relative to the companys business and healthcare requirements. Interacts as part of a team and is able to plan, design, implement and support some company Information Technology infrastructure, networks, hardware and applications.


Essential Functions

  • Provides technical support to maintain, monitor and troubleshoot technical systems that are associated with providing critical patient care.


  • Participates in scheduled projects that require interaction between various customer and department and hardware/software vendors. Provides input to project plans, work schedules and critical timelines.


  • Works effectively as a team member of the department or project groups. Demonstrates teamwork by participating and performing tasks as defined by the team.


  • Produces technical input for designs to complex processes for presentation to senior members of the team.


  • Interacts with the customer, from a variety of departments, to research and develop solutions to support issues resulting in a positive experience for the customer.


  • Provides technical information regarding current and future industry concepts, hardware, and software.



Minimum Qualifications

Must possess an associate/vocational degree in related field or equivalent combination of relevant education, technical, business and healthcare experience.

Requires communication, and presentation skills to engage technical and non-technical audiences. Requires ability to communicate, and interact across facilities and at various levels. As is typical in this industry, variable shifts and hours and carrying/responding to a pager may be required.
