Banner Health Foundation is currently seeking a Grant Writer to join the team.  This position is located at Banner Corporate Center Phoenix Plaza, off Central & Thomas.


The Banner Health Foundation provides philanthropic support to Banner Health through gifts secured from individuals, foundations and corporations.


Job Summary

This position has primary responsibility for preparing proposals and grant applications and for submitting timely and accurate reports for all existing grant-funded projects. This position performs responsible, professional administrative work in researching, identifying, developing and responding to public and private grant opportunities in alignment with Banner Health priorities and needs. Position may also edit and/or prepare and submit proposals and applications for corporate funding, as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources.

  • Perform prospect research on foundations to evaluate prospects for foundation grants.

  • Work with internal Banner Health leaders to gather information necessary to report to corporate/foundation funders on current grant programs. Comply with all grant reporting as required by foundation/corporate donors.

  • Develop a deep understanding of Banner Health programs, services and facilities.

  • Work closely with Corporate Relations Manager to plan, document and execute annual corporate and foundation development strategies.

  • Arrange for onsite tours for supporters (foundation officers, foundation trustees).

  • Maintain current records in database and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting. Track statistics relevant to development and provide department with written materials necessary for donor stewardship.

  • Assist with special projects as requested.

  • Minimum Qualifications

    Knowledge of business management or related area as typically obtained through the completion of a bachelors degree.

    Skill level as typically achieved through a minimum of six years nonprofit fundraising experience with an emphasis on grant writing, grants management, foundation relations and/or corporate fundraising. Previous experience in grant writing/grants management and familiarity with fundraising software to track donors and measure progress against goals. Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals. Strong editing skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines. Knowledge of fundraising information sources, basic fundraising techniques, familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research. Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors. Strong contributor in team environments and able to monitor and meet income goals.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Masters degree. Prior experience in raising funds for research, medical education, and/or Centers of Excellence. Familiarity with healthcare and hospital operations.

    Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
