This position is responsible for assisting clinicians and nursing staff in providing medical care, as well as, implementing and evaluating direct patient care. This position utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment and skills to provide an excellent patient experience. Possible Restriction in Cerner- Can do everything but place orders, prescription refill.
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. Knowledge as normally obtained through graduation from an Accredited Medical Assisting Program. Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations. All Medical Assistants are required to have a current CPR/BLS card.An uncertified Med Asst will be placed in this position up to, but no more than 6 months in order to obtain certification. Certification must be completed from one of the following agencies:Active Medical Assistant certification such as: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) and proof of current membership from American Medical Technologists (AMT) Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) and proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) and proof of current membership from National Health Career Association (NHA) (Test administered after 7/1/2017 only)National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) and proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT)All States minus Arizona: ABR-OE is an additional option if certification cannot be obtained. Applicant must successfully complete the AAMA continuing education unit (CEU) courses along with a passing score on the post-tests. ABR-OE is a bridge until required certification can be obtained and is available through December 31, 2019.
All direct patient care personnel are required to present documentation of competent performance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS) techniques for adults, children and infants according to the standards of a nationally recognized, standardized, credentialed healthcare provider course every other year.
Requires strong computer skills, including the ability to work with medical software. Requires exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Requires the ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an effective and organized fashion.
Experience with office medical procedures and treatments and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
