    Sun Health Foundation is the fund raising arm that develops community support for the Banner Del E. Webb and the Banner Boswell Medical Centers and the Banner Sun Health Research Institute.  These institutions were acquired by Banner from Sun Health in 2008.  Due to the long-standing relationship with the community, the Sun Health Foundation continues in its philanthropic role. While Sun Health employees are leased through Banner Health, they report to the Sun Health Administration and Board. 


    As the VP Philanthropy for Sun Health, you will be involved in the community representing Sun Health Foundation managing large campaigns, major capital, partner with high profile caliber prospects.  You have a great team supporting the overall philanthropy efforts while growing and developing your teams abilities in their career journey.

    Job Summary

    This position works with the organization’s Executive VP and Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO) to plan, design, and implement fund development strategies for the foundation(s). Establishes and cultivates relationships which will help to expand, strengthen and diversify a stable donor base and pipeline. Works closely with the board of directors and CPO to encourage and support their fundraising efforts. The incumbent also cultivates both internal and external relationships in order to support the CPO implement and manage major campaigns and strategies for major gifts, corporate, foundation, and planned giving. Assembles, manages and motivates a staff of philanthropy professionals. Personally identifies prospects and solicits major gifts.


    Essential Functions

    • Works with the CPO, foundation board president and staff to develop and implement comprehensive fund development strategies for major gifts, corporate, foundation, and planned giving. 
    • Communicates strategies and creates an environment conducive to achieving/exceeding fundraising goals. Recruits, selects, trains and motivates a staff of philanthropy professionals. 
    • Serves as a highly visible representative of the organization in order to maximize funding opportunities. Identifies potential donors, personally solicits major gifts, and manages major campaigns. 
    • Establishes and cultivates relationships which will help to expand, strengthen and diversify a stable donor base and pipeline. In conjunction with CPO, develops, implements and maintains stewardship philosophies and programs which create and sustain deeper ties with donors.
    • Supports and partners with the CPO, foundation board president and board members on all major fundraising initiatives. Supports board members as they become more active fundraisers.
    • Following plans approved by the CPO, develops and executes funding proposals. Oversees funding sources, monitors trends, and works with CPO to adjust strategies accordingly. 
    • Provides statistical analysis to be presented to the board and executive leaders. Monitors and reports regularly on the progress of the major giving program.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Knowledge of business management or related area normally acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree. 
    Must possess skills and abilities typically achieved through 10 years of professional fund development experience in a nonprofit organization. Proven experience in executing comprehensive, multi-million dollar campaigns and demonstrated experience cultivating and expanding existing donor relationships over time. Must possess strong organizational skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to influence a diverse donor population. Previous experience developing and implementing strategic development plans. Previous management experience and familiarity with fundraising software to track prospects and measure progress against goals.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Masters degree. Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification. Prior experience in raising funds for research, medical education, and/or Centers of Excellence. Familiarity with healthcare and hospital operations.
    Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
